Flavor Flav was arrested in Las Vegas last week and charged with misdemeanor domestic violence and felony assault. At the time of the arrest there were few details about the situation but more information has surfaced about the incident itself.
Flav was already having a bad run of things with the closing of his Las Vegas chicken restaurant–due as much to the supposedly awful food as anything else. The arrest sure didn’t help things. According to the arrest report filed by Las Vegas Metro, Flav and started chasing his fiance and her son around his house with not one, but two, knives. He was allegedly worked up over accusations that she’d been cheating on him and Flav didn’t exactly react in a positive manner.
Flav threw his ‘old lady’ to the ground and allegedly ripped her earring out. At that point his fiance’s son jumped in to protect his mom and Flav turned his attention to him, chasing him around the house with the aforementioned knives. The 17 year old boy took shelter behind a locked door, which Flav kicked down and threatened to kill him. Flav denies that most of this took place including the knives, ripped earring and the death threats.
The rapper remained behind bars for a couple of days before enlisting the services of an attorney and posting $23,000 bail. He’ll be back in court next week. He’s been in trouble with the law before having spent a month in jail for domestic assault in 1991 and three months in prison for a New York gun crime in 1993. In all fairness, however, that’s nearly 20 years of keeping his nose clean.
Flav has had a very strange career. He was a member of one of the most important rap acts in history–Public Enemy–and served as ‘comic relief’ to Chuck D’s booming and controversial raps. The band still plays live every now and then, but other than that Flav really hasn’t done much. He’s been a reality TV attraction for awhile and more recently a C list ‘hanger on’ in his adopted home town of Las Vegas (where he opened his now defunct chicken restaurant).
