There are several Online Urdu editors available, However to write in Urdu you have to be familiar with Urdu keyboard and it could take several days to several weeks to get yourself used to writing in Urdu using Urdu keyboard. However Luckily The Web Giant Google has introduced ‘Urdu Transliteration‘ which would help you write in Urdu without having to know the Urdu Keyboard.

    write-urdu-online

With this service you only need to write Urdu in Roman English like ‘ Urdu Mein Kaisay Likha Jaay ‘ and it would be automatically converted into Urdu Text like this ‘  اردو میں کیسے لکھا جاے’

And to Make writing in Urdu easier on any website or Blog Google Transliteration service has introduced a browser Bookmarklet Just save this Bookmarklet to your Browsers Bookmarks like Firefox or Internet Explorer and press it when you want to write in Urdu on any of the Website or Blog for instance writing comments in Urdu. I hope this is great online tools for Urdu bloggers and Internet users who can write in Urdu more conveniently now.

Update (Tip From a Commenter ):

Google made their transliteration tools available as an IME for Windows. So goto the following URL :

    http://www.google.com/ime/transliteration/

select your desired language (Urdu available) then download and install the package.

This will enable transliteration capability on every textbox in every modern unicode enabled application.
Just right click on the textbox and select “Open IME”

I have always liked the word “محظوظ ہونا”.

BTW if you use linux, it is very easy to install Urdu support in it, and as it uses phonetic keyboard (n key is for ن, s is for س etc.), typing isn’t difficult either.

I guess it depends on what you are used to. People who aren’t geeks like us, find it difficult to type at all, whereas I am so used to typing, I find it slow and difficult to write. I guess as long as there is more Urdu content it doesn’t matter how it was typed. :)

Oh and did you type the paragraph using Roman Urdu? I haven’t used Google tranliteration for anything more complex than ‘kia hal hai’, so don’t know how good it is.

    3. I have developed a bookmarklet application using the Googgle Trasnliteration API and with this you can read and write Urdu on any web page.

The details, steps to use and the video tutorial for this is available at:

BTW, now you can also transliterate from Hindi to English and Hindi to Urdu using this tool.

      Regards, Akbar
