Yesterday we rhetorically asked how the Hulk Hogan sex tape fiasco could continue to command the attention of the Internet and the gossip press. Today we’ve got the answer–there’s significant evidence that the video was made without ‘The Hulkster’s’ knowledge and that he was set up by his long time best friend, shock jock Bubba the Love Sponge.
The more information that comes out the bigger the train wreck becomes. Less than a week ago the video was mere speculation which was quickly confirmed in lurid detail by the Gawker gossip website. The gruesome play by play of the tape left out what could be the most salient detail–a postscript by Bubba the Love Sponge himself.
The Bubba postscript was largely ignored until yesterday. After Hulk leaves the ‘Love Sponge’ residence Bubba rejoins his wife in the bedroom and booms out this incendiary line:
“If we ever did want to retire, all we’d have to do is use this footage.”
Hogan was told of this detail in an appearance on a TMZ Live audio broadcast yesterday and he was clearly dumbfounded by Bubba’s comment saying:
“I’m sick to my stomach right now.”
Hogan then continued to say that he’d warned Bubba to be straight with him about the recording and release of the video:
“If you had anything to do with this, that means we were never friends.”
Hulk is currently exploring all of his legal options and will reportedly file a report with the Clearwater, Florida Police Department according to his attorney David Houston:
“We think whatever lawful means are available for redress should be put into play. That’s what Hulk wants to do. New York may be best jurisdiction for the criminal case. We’re in Florida initially to figure that out.”
So far no public comment from Bubba the Love Sponge though that’s likely forthcoming since he’s the only party to the drama we haven’t heard from yet. Then again, we haven’t heard from Hogan’s kids or his current wife (who is reportedly not happy with the whole situation–and who can blame her). We also haven’t heard from Bubba’s ex wife and Hulk’s ‘co star’ Heather Clem. Hogan made several media appearances on Tuesday including the aforementioned TMZ, Howard Stern’s radio show and a somewhat bizarre appearance on the ‘Today’ show.
