Rapper Lil’ Wayne could be described as many things but the ‘picture of health’ isn’t one of them. After reports of two seizures in the past few days–requiring his hospitalization–fans and the media were especially concerned about his well being. In an attempt to quiet reports that something more serious is wrong with him Lil’ Wayne today tweeted “I’m good” without providing any further details or context.
The story began when gossip site TMZ reported that Lil’ Wayne suffered a seizure in midair forcing his private jet to make an emergency landing in Texas on Thursday. The rapper–real name Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.–was taken to a hospital where he was checked out but left several hours later. The situation escalated on Friday when Lil’ Wayne once again suffered a seizure mid flight requiring another emergency landing, this time in Louisiana. He once again spent several hours undergoing treatment but left the Oschner Medical Center in Kenner, Louisiana right around 6 PM local time.
While there have been unconfirmed reports suggesting that dehydration might have been at fault there’s still not been any type of statement from Lil’ Wayne’s handlers other than the aforementioned Tweet and some random comments over a ‘migraine’. In addition to concerns over his health the situation could derail a legal matter that Wayne is involved in. He’s suing producer Quincy Jones III over a documentary film that was made about him. He wasn’t happy with the way he was portrayed in the finished product and took the matter to court. He was scheduled to testify on Friday which obviously didn’t happen. A rescheduled testimony on Monday is also now in jeopardy. His legal team is trying to figure out the next move and the judge in the matter could declare a mistrial or dismiss the suit altogether.
The situation remains fluid and it doesn’t even seem like Lil’ Wayne’s representatives are on the same page here. While some have dismissed it as a very minor health matter others close to the rapper are claiming seizure. Radio transmissions from the flight crew to ground control also suggest that the ‘seizure’ story is accurate and that there was more concern over Lil’ Wayne’s condition than there would have been were it merely a ‘migraine’.
