Govt Launch Campaign against offensive emails, SMSs
by Jeff
Earlier today various News outlets reported that Govt of Pakistan has launched campaign against people who are misusing Emails and SMSs to defame country’s leadership namely President Asif Zardari. Also there are reports that certain banned organizations are involved in defaming propaganda against security forces as well.
The News reported on its website.
Directive has been issued to DG FIA for taking to task the elements involved in the crime under Cyber Crimes Act. Interpol has also been formally requested to track such emails and web sites developed outside the country. Help will be sought from the international police for deportation of the people involved in the crime, sources said. Those proved guilty of committing these crimes will be punished with 14 years imprisonment and/ or confiscation of the property.
Since I am frequent users of several social Networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter and this news was not welcomed by most of the blogging community, they see it as an instrument to control Internet esp., the Blogging community who played a very vital role in restoration of Chief Justice of Pakistan. I personally don’t like receiving propaganda emails or SMSs from anyone yet i feel if Govt try to control Internet by imposing this law then they would further outrage the blogging or Internet community and in my view would be considered as a mistake!
