Stella McCartney Steals The Show At The 2012 British Fashion Awards

Last night saw some of the fashion worlds biggest stars step out to attend the 2012 British Fashion Awards.

The prestigious star-studded awards ceremony, which is the fashion industries equivalent to the Oscars was held at the London’s Savoy Hotel. The event, was hosted by gorgeous actress Gemma Arterton and Radio 1 host Nick Grimshaw, with some of the fashion industry’s most important figures present such as: Sarah Burton, Valentino and British Fashion Council Ambassador Samantha Cameron.

It was the Beatles Sir Paul McCartney’s daughter, Stella McCartney who stole the show at the star-studded event, picking up an impressive two awards on the night. The mother-of-four took home both the Designer of the Year and Designer Brand of the Year awards, topping off what has been a great year for her.

For the last few years now Stella has been accepted by many as being the best British fashion designer, which is why she was given the privilege of designing the whole British Olympic team’s kit, for the London 2012 Olympic Games which was held this summer.

Elsewhere, 14 other awards were handed out on the night, with those who have made the most impact on the British fashion industry being recognised for their hard work and talent.

Manolo Blahnik’s outstanding contribution to the fashion world was honoured by his Lifetime Achievement award, whilst Harold Tillman CBE, the Chairman of the British Fashion Council was given a Special Recognition Award, which was presented to him by HRH Princess Beatrice of York.

The Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator was awarded to Professor Louise Wilson OBE, the course director of the Fashion Master’s degree at Central Saint Martins.

Tillman, the Chairman of the BFC expressed his delight at celebrating this years best British fashion, stating: “The British Fashion Awards are a significant event which represent the culmination of extraordinary talent, creativity and innovation across the whole industry. The ceremony provides the perfect conclusion to what has been an exceptional year for British fashion and we’re very proud to celebrate the achievements of all the nominees here this evening.”

Upon accepting his award Tillman added: “The last five years have been extraordinary and seeing the BFC and the fashion industry go from strength to strength is a reward in itself so it is completely unexpected to be given this award. My term as chair ends in just a few weeks time and I am so grateful to all those at the BFC and our designers who have inspired and supported me in equal measure. It has been an honour to serve this great industry for so long – Thank you all.”
