New Orleans grown rapper Lil Wayne has announced his shocking plans to retire from music, whilst declaring that his upcoming album ‘Carter V’ will be his last.
The Cash Money Records star revealed his plans to bow out of the rap game, in a recent interview with MTV’s Sway Colloway. Whilst fans are sure to be saddened by the news, this isn’t the end of Lil Wayne just yet as he confirmed that his retirement would come after the release of two albums- ‘I Am Not A Human Being II’ and ‘Carter V’.
Breaking the news of his music departure to his dedicated fans, Lil Wayne told Colloway: “I know y’all want me around for a little bit, and Carter V is my last album. Man, I’ve been rappin’ since I was 8 years old. I’m 30 now, man. That’s a long time, man.”
Despite earning the respect of those high up in the hip-hop industry through his stellar rap career, Lil Wayne has confessed that some of the most recent music he has released has not been up to his expected high standard. Lil Wayne explained: “I signed my contract at 11, I went platinum at 14. I’m 30 now. Thank God I haven’t put out an album that hasn’t went platinum. To just keep it goin’ like that, I think not only am I being greedy, I’m fooling myself to think that it will continue to be that great.”
Whilst Lil Wayne is calling time on his own rap career, the hip-hop star will remain the acting CEO of Young Money Records, the record label, which stars Nicki Minaj, Drake, Lil Twist and Tyga are all signed to.
When questioned about what direction he wants to take when he retires from music, Lil Wayne admitted that he will take his new found time to focus on his second passion away from music- skateboarding. “I’d be a skater/sports analyst. My day job will probably be sports analyst and I’ll skate all night instead of being in the studio all night. Skating is a world, it’s a world… it’s a life, it’s a world, it’s, it’s own and I didn’t know that. I thought it was four wheels and piece of wood. I didn’t know that. Now I know it’s a world and I just wanna be vital in that world.”
Lil Wayne has enjoyed skateboarding as a hobby since he was a child. His passion for the sport has grown over the years, which has seen the star open up several of his own skate parks. The sport is also the inspiration behind his clothing line ‘Trukfit’.
Since hearing Lil Wayne’s plans to retire from music, some sources close to the star have revealed that his health is the main reason he is calling it a day. Lil Wayne is currently on seizure medication, after he suffered from an awakening health scare last month. The star has previously admitted to suffering from an addiction to cough syrup.
