When we look up to celebrities, business leaders and professional athletes, we often make the assumption that these folks are super human, and that they are not susceptible to the things we, as ordinary people, are. However, Burke is the latest celebrity to be diagnosed with an illness as serious as cancer. It is hard to believe that it was just a decade or so ago that the vibrant Burke was pacing up and down the strips of some of the hottest party spots in the world in the show, Wild on E!. While her career on that show ended several years ago when another host took it over, Burke went on to bigger and better things.
Burke was seen on Dancing with the Stars and many other shows, which all received excellent ratings. The incredible thing about Brooke is her incredible level of youthfulness as she would have been in her late 30s when she hosted the late-night, party-spot showcase show on E!. She is now in her late 40s although she certainly does not show her age.
After visiting a doctor, a lump was discovered in her neck, which is obviously a very frightening experience because cancer in one’s neck is either an easy fix, or it could result in someone essentially having their whole throat removed. An ultrasound was run on her neck. While Brooke would have rather seen the results come back negative, the results were about as good as they could get in the fact that she has thyroid cancer and not throat cancer.
For those who do not know, the thyroid is a gland in one’s neck that controls several different body functions. Two of the biggest things controlled by the thyroid are blood pressure and heart rate, but it can also have an effect on one’s appetite and energy levels- which Brooke did not appear to show any decreased levels of energy.
The upper-40s celebrity said that she is prepared to undergo the necessary procedures to have the tumor removed. Her spokesperson noted that the surgery and recovery process will not interfere with her position on Dancing with the Stars. Her co-host, Tom Bergeron, said that she had informed him of the cancer several months ago, but he believed that it was her right to determine if the news should be made public or not. We wish Brooke, her family and her friends the best in her upcoming surgery and recovery.
