Crucial Advice For Homeowners Who Desperately Need To De-Clutter

Whether you have moved house a handful of times and have become somewhat of a self-proclaimed expert, or else have lived in your current property for a while, no matter what your individual situation, modern living means you will have far too much stuff knocking around in your house that you simply do not need.

Continue reading to learn of some crucial and incredibly helpful pieces of advice for homeowners who desperately need to de-clutter.

Consider The ‘Middle Man’

One thing that puts people off from having a good old root through their attic space or cupboard under the stairs is that even though the items packed away are not necessarily useful right now, they are still reluctant to throw them away lest they need them in the future.

In these situations, there is a fantastic solution to the difficulty; contact the proverbial middleman. If you have a plethora of things that certainly fit into this category, then invest in a large, safe, and secure self-storage facility from a reputable and renowned local supplier such as storagearea.com.

Put Pen To Paper

On the morning of the first day, you have deliberately cleared in your schedule to begin the thorough de-clutter of your family home. Start with a steaming hot cup of tea or coffee and sit down at the kitchen table.

Draw a basic floor plan of your entire home and circle in colored pen the areas that are prone to being magnets for clutter and, with a contrasting color, circle areas and places of storage within each room.

Prioritize each room and each clutter space with a simple numerical system, so you have a visual map of where to start and which place to do in order. Additionally, as you start to go from room to room, have a notepad on standby to note down anything that needs repainting, mending, or replacing entirely, which you can refer back to once you have completed the de-cluttering of your home.

Divide Your Unwanted Belongings Into Large Boxes

Use either repurposed or borrowed storage boxes or invest in some cheap boxes from the local store and label each one with a different heading to efficiently divide your unwanted belongings.

Have one box for charity donations, one for anything precious and dear to you that you are going to pass on to children, close friends, or other family members, and another for the recycling trash can.

Avoid The Rubbish Draw!

Usually, in a home that could be somewhat accurately described as one that is most definitely ‘lived-in’, you will always find at least a couple of closets or drawers that have been unofficially designated as the rubbish draw.

You know the type; full of random buttons and screws, odd bits of paper with illegible scrawl from years ago, and coins that have since been taken out of circulation. Avoid such drawers at all costs and ensure a new one is never again created to help you stay more organized.
