Dogs are long-term commitments that you should stick with and be responsible for. When left alone, they may have destructive tendencies leading to your home furniture getting chewed on, or being unresponsive when you call them. Here are some ways to make your dog less destructive at home for a happy and neat home.

Give Them Their Own Space

Invest in a dog house or find a space in your home for your dog to retreat to when they get overstimulated so that they have their alone time. They will learn to go here for some rest and will come back out when they are ready for playtime or when they need your attention. Planning to move into a new condo like The Serra Residences with a pet entails careful preparation for a smooth transition, so make sure to check the building administrator on rules about pet ownership.

Play With Them

You have 24 hours in one day. Make some time for your pet in your day so that you can play and spend time with them. Pets require attention and get bored when you don’t interact with them, which can cause havoc all over your home until you finally notice them. Give them their favorite toys or just spend time with them to allow them to spend their energy.

Train Them

Train your dog to be less destructive with an approach called positive reinforcement. Use treats as a reward when they do something you want, like going to the potty area to do their business, not chew on your furniture and not biting. They will think of it as a good thing and will do it often.

Invest in Toys That Stimulate Them

There are toys that can help stimulate a pet’s brain such as puzzles that dispose of treats when they complete the activity, giving the stimulation they need when you are not around and allows them to get their playtime in for the day.
