It’s not unusual to experience a low wi-fi signal in a smaller home, such as a condo. When this happens to you and your device is putting out dead spots in the far corners when you’re in an Emerald of Katong condo, here are five tips to improve the wi-fi signal.
Switch to 2.4 GHz
Most modern routers are dual channel, which means they produce signals in 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz form. 5GHz is faster but has a shorter range, while 2.4GHz is slower but has a far longer range. To eliminate dead spots in your house you can switch the router to produce only 2.4GHz through the router’s app.
The Higher, The Better
Wifi signals work better if there’s no obstruction. You can try and elevate the device by propping objects underneath the device. The optimal spot is the middle of your house and as high as possible.
Add or Change to a Strong Password
Your home internet could be siphoned by freeloaders, so it’s time to protect it. Add or change to a stronger password, e.g., a combination of numbers and letters so it will be harder to guess and hack into.
Upgrade to a New Router
If you’re still using a modem that’s more than ten years old, then it’s probably high time to upgrade. Any router with dual channels are good, and if the product has extended-range features then the better.
Reset
Doing a soft reset of your router is often a quick and free solution to your wifi woes. Locate the router, then either turn it off via the button or unplug it from the wall outlet. Wait a minute, then plug it back in or press the on button. Let it sit for a while and try and see if it works.
