Owning a regular pet is great, but what if you cannot afford one? Don’t worry, a suitable alternative is here! Introducing the pet rock: the companion that has been selling since the late 1975s by advertising executive Gary Dehl, and is still a massive cultural phenomenon today.
It’s a novelty item that you can now make on your own, and a great choice of pet for kids and adults alike, requiring no grooming, feeding, and baths. Want to make your own pet rock for yourself or do this interesting activity with your family in your new home at Amberwood at Holland? Below are the necessary steps needed to build one.
What you need:
- A rock (smooth stones are recommended)
- Plastic googly eyes
- Permanent markers
- Acrylic paint/paint pens
- Craft/hot glue
- (Optional) Pom-poms, felt scraps, feathers, and yarn
Step-by-step:
- Clean the rock: Wash the rock with soap and water to remove dirty substances on it. Then, let it dry before proceeding.
- (Optional) Paint it: Paint the rock with an acrylic or pen paint with your preferred color and let it dry.
- Design the face: Stick the googly eyes in with hot or craft glue, then use markers or other related coloring to draw a mouth, eyebrows, and other facial features.
- (Optional) Personalize it: Glue on the pom-poms to make a nose, felt scraps or yarn for the hair, and other tiny accessories to give it a little more character to it.
- Let it dry: Put your pet rock aside to completely dry so that the paint and glue can complete its process.
Get creative and design your pet rock to your liking. You can even give it a home with a DIY cardboard habitat and bedding made of cotton or shredded colorful paper. Give it a name if you want and add some personality, then care for your new pet or give it as a unique and thoughtful gift!
