Extreme sports have become increasingly popular today, and with good reason. Modern society has become too focused on safety, and people are finding ways to get their adrenaline fix.

Extreme sports are activities that go beyond the normal; a single wrong move might end in a catastrophe. This rush is what attracts most people seeking a more exciting life. The next time you feel the need for speed while relaxing in your Lucerne Grand flat, give these five a try.

Skydiving

Skydiving is when individuals jump from an aircraft and free-fall before deploying a parachute to drop safely to the ground. What you see and feel is a great mix of scenic soaring and high adrenaline, making this a very popular sport for beginners and veterans around the world.

BASE jumping

Similar to skydiving, BASE (Buildings, Antennas, Spans, and Earth)  jumping is when people jump off of fixed structures. It is much more dangerous than skydiving because of the lower altitudes, requiring individuals to deploy the parachute in only seconds after jumping. In fact, it is considered one of the most dangerous extreme sports globally.

Rock/Ice Climbing

Rock or ice climbing is when people ascend exhilarating vertical surfaces. They typically have various safety equipment, such as ropes, hooks, and protective gear, although there is a form where individuals have no gear at all, which is called free-form climbing.

Mountain Biking

Mountain biking is when individuals ride specialized bicycles on off-road terrain. This is not only extreme, but it also surprisingly brings an accessible area to the outdoors, a full body workout, and allows for a deeper connection to nature.

Surfing/Big Wave Surfing

Surfing or big wave surfing is when surfers get towed into waves, sometimes reaching over 20 feet (or 6 meters) tall or higher. It needs extensive knowledge of surfing, great physical shape, and specialized surfboards, also known as tow-boards or “guns”.
