Paris Hilton is at the centre of controversy after her fifth handbag and accessories store which has been opened Saudi Arabia, is accused of disregarding the principles of Islam.
The famous heiress posted a picture of her new accessories store based in Saudi Arabia’s holy city of Mecca, to her followers on social network site Twitter, expecting her fans to be excited at the news of a new store opening in Mecca Mall: “Loving my beautiful new store that just opened at Mecca Mall in Saudi Arabia!” However, Paris soon became on the receiving end of a hoard of abuse, after angry Twitter users made her aware of the insult she has caused the Islamic community, insisting her store ignores to the basic principles of the Islamic religion.
One disgruntled user questioned the decision to allow Paris to open a store in Mecca, tweeting: “Saudi claim there are other ways to allow for pilgrims, and if religiosity is of such importance, why is Paris Hilton being allowed a store in Mecca?”
Another user pointed out how inappropriate it is that someone who is famous for having a sex tape has opened a store in a historically religious city, commenting: “How can someone who made such a video open a store in the holy city next to the Grand Mosque?”
Not everyone shared this same view point however, with one person writing on the Mecca Mall’s Facebook page: “Why the attack? This is a global brand found everywhere, whether it was in an Arab country or a European one.”
Defending her decision to open a store in Mecca, Paris was quick to inform tweeters that the new store is in fact her fifth store now to open in Saudi Arabia, and her 42nd store to open worldwide, suggesting that she has opened the store as there is the demand for her products.
Back in January, Paris told men’s magazine FHM how excited she is to watch her business empire grow, revealing that she plans to expand her brand which currently exists of: her accessories stores, which feature 17 product lines, her perfume line which now boasts 14 different fragrances and her motorcylce racing team. The heiress added that she is curerently working on developing a Paris Hilton Beach Club chain, whilst her future plans include launching her own nightclubs, restaurants, bars and gyms.
