Yesterday I among many other bloggers, was invited to attend the Launch event of Motorola Milestone which is the GSM version of Motorola Droid , arranged by Mobilink Pakistan one of the leading Cellular Networks in Pakistan. The event was co-hosted by Mobilink, Motorola and Google. Motorola Milestone is the first Android Phone which is officially introduced by any Mobile Carrier in Pakistan. Although many newer models of Motorola Droid (Milestone) have been released in USA and it did drew some criticism at the event too that why the latest Model Droid X is not being launched here in Pakistan, yet it is encouraging to see the local Market is finally embracing the smart-phone technology. There was a short Facebook contest too at the event and One lucky Winner got the Motorola Milestone Handset and it is available for the price of Rs. 38000/- though !
Overall Smartphone use is on the rise in Pakistan, despite the fact that other than HTC phones there is hardly any other brand Smartphone available in Pakistan such as Apple iPhone. (People do get Jailbroken iPhones here or Factory unlocked at ridiculous cost ) I have heard that Samsung Galaxy S launch was due this week as well, however postponed due to the unfortunate Plane Crash this week in Islamabad. really??? whatever happened to nokia which has been selling smart phones in Pakistan for last 5 to 8 years at least.
No disrespect to nokia users, but I have used symbian all my life… that really sucks.

Even 2K is less. Its a 38K phone. They should atleast make it 35K for 34K for maboot users :S
