Mike Brown Ousted as Lakers Coach

Los Angeles Lakers’ fans, and NBA fans in general, have been shocked by the Lakers poor performance so far this year. They have started the season with a 1-4 record despite having some high-caliber players on their roster and a high-quality fan base? Who knows what has gone wrong with the team so far this year, but we can speculate one thing, and that is the fact that the Lakers’ general manager believes that the team’s coach, Mike Brown, is the primary person responsible for the inexcusable record.

Mike Brown was fired as the head coach of the Lakers today, which might be a short-term way to quiet the fans a little, but you just have to wonder how beneficial this is going to be long-term. Most coaching changes are made following the season, and occasionally, a coach might lose his job shortly before or after the all-star break. A coach being fired in the fifth game of the season without doing something terribly illegal is practically unheard of. In all, Brown only served as the Lakers’ coach for 18 months, and he replaced the legendary Phil Jackson.

Lakers’ general manager, Mitch Kupchak said, “This was a difficult and painful decision to make,” Kupchak said. ”Mike was very hard-working and dedicated, but we felt it was in the best interest of the team to make a change at this time. We appreciate Mike’s efforts and contributions and wish him and his family the best of luck.” Perhaps, Brown was in a position where he simply could not match what Jackson was able to do while at the helm.

Even though he was not given long to prove himself as a coach, Brown had only nice things to say about the Lakers’ owner. Brown stated that, “I have great respect for the Buss family and the Lakers’ storied tradition, and I thank them for the opportunity they afforded me,” Brown said in a statement issued by the Lakers. ”I have a deep appreciation for the coaches and players that I worked with this past year, and I wish the organization nothing but success as they move forward.”

The players did not have a negative word to say about their, now former, head coach. Kobe told reporters that people were not being patient with the new system, and this can be proven by the fact that five games was all Brown had to work with.
