There are some conspiracy theories afoot that the recently released Hulk Hogan sex tape–which has since gone viral all over the Intertubes–was a ‘work’. Not that the tape was fake–it’s all too real–but that it’s release and the reaction of ‘Team Hogan’ was an attempt to manipulate the media in hopes of reviving their fading celebrity. Whether or not it was the intended result of the tape’s release it worked–the Hulk Hogan sex tape has dominated ‘trending topic’ lists for the past several days.
If the Hogan family (with apologies to Sandy Duncan and Valerie Harper) was trying to shoot a reality show they could have compiled a season’s worth of footage in the past few days. Now it seems that ‘The Hulkster’s’ ex wife Linda Hogan may have swerved into the fray. Linda was arrested on suspicion of DUI on Friday morning in Malibu, California. Some reports suggest that she was distraught over the release of the tape though the reason for her reaction was unclear. Obviously it could have been a motherly reaction, worrying about the collateral damage the scandal would have on her dysfunctional family. On the other hand, it could have been something of a ‘post traumatic stress’ response at the sight of Hulk’s thong tan line or a serious creepout upon hearing daughter Brooke Hogan’s song as a ringtone on Hulk’s phone mid romp.
Alas, Linda Hogan’s representative throws water on the suggestion that the video ‘drove her to drink’. According to laywer, Raymond Rafool, the real story is far less interesting. According to his version of events Linda was drinking champagne at a ‘jewelry event’ and had a glass too many. She had been taking antibiotics for an unspecified ailment and that produced an intensified reaction to the bubbly. To be fair, she came in just barely over the legal limit–Linda blew a 0.084, just fractions over the legal limit of 0.08.
Rafool’s statement suggests that her reaction is one of embarrassment, though he didn’t specify whether she was embarrassed over the DUI or the video:
“She regrets it. She’s a mom, so she’s embarrassed about it.”
She’s yet to respond specifically about the sex video imbroglio, though that is no doubt forthcoming.
